Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

¼ cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

1 large egg

1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk with 1 tablespoon of vinegar added)

2 tablespoons melted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat the egg. Stir in the buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined; the batter may be slightly lumpy. Do not overmix.

Add Chocolate Chips: Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Heat the Pan: Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease with cooking spray or a bit of butter.

Cook Pancakes: Pour about ¼ cup of batter onto the heated skillet for each pancake. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes, or until the pancake is cooked through and slightly puffed.

Serve Warm: Stack the pancakes on a plate and serve warm with your favorite toppings (e.g., whipped cream, extra chocolate chips, sliced bananas, or maple syrup).
