Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls, cut into cubes

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup crushed pineapple, drained (optional)

1 cup shredded coconut (optional)

Powdered sugar for dusting (for serving)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Prepare Bread Cubes: Place the cubed Sweet Hawaiian rolls in the greased baking dish. If using, sprinkle the crushed pineapple and shredded coconut evenly over the bread cubes.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until everything is well combined.

Combine: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Gently press down on the bread to help it absorb the liquid, then let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to soak further.

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Serve: Allow the French toast bake to cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top, if desired.

              Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 8-10
