Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (90% lean)

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 red bell pepper, finely diced

1 carrot, grated

1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)

2 tablespoons hoisin sauce

2 teaspoons sesame oil

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/4 cup green onions, sliced (for garnish)

1 head of butter or iceberg lettuce, leaves separated

Chopped peanuts or cashews (for garnish, optional)

Fresh cilantro (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the vegetable oil. Once hot, add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Brown until fully cooked, approximately 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Add Aromatics: Stir in the minced garlic, ginger, and chopped onion. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.

Incorporate Vegetables: Add the diced red bell pepper and grated carrot to the skillet. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables soften.

Create the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Pour this sauce over the cooked beef and vegetables in the skillet.

Simmer: Stir well to combine all the ingredients. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes so the flavors meld together. If the mixture seems too runny, let it cook a little longer until thickened.

Assemble the Wraps: To serve, spoon a generous amount of the beef mixture onto the center of a lettuce leaf. Top with sliced green onions, chopped peanuts or cashews, and fresh cilantro if desired.

Enjoy: Fold the lettuce leaf around the filling like a taco, and enjoy your delicious and vibrant Asian-style ground beef lettuce wraps!
