Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup breadcrumbs

1 egg, lightly beaten

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

2 cups sliced potatoes (about 3-4 medium potatoes)

1 cup beef broth

1 cup canned cream of mushroom soup

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully incorporated.

Shape the Patties: Form the meat mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties, about ½ inch thick.

Cook the Patties: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned. They don’t need to be cooked through; they will finish cooking in the oven. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Layer Potatoes: In a greased 9x13-inch casserole dish, layer the sliced potatoes evenly at the bottom. Season with salt and pepper.

Prepare the Sauce: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the beef broth and cream of mushroom soup until smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the layered potatoes.

Add Patties and Veggies: Place the browned hamburger patties on top of the potatoes. Scatter the frozen mixed vegetables over the patties.

Bake: Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.

Add Cheese: After 40 minutes, remove the foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top, and bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
